Weekly update, July 3

Happy Friday and Holiday Weekend! It's a hot one. Advice on keeping cool is proliferating on various channels. The most obvious--avoid being outdoors in the sun--is likely the most effective. Still...we want to celebrate together.

The Southern Branch of the Orange County Library--in the Drakeford Building at 203 S. Greensboro St.--is an official cooling center from 8am - 8pm.

Online this week

We posted some photos from Carrboro's Pride Celebration, a preview of July 4th events, two Perspectives: political violence and Bullet-Proofing Democracy, and--a first--an Editorial about our distressed republic, which comes at the request of some subscribers.

Beautiful new mural by Loren Pease at 203 West Weaver St.

On The Carrborean Radio Hour

John Rees hosted his first show on The Carrborean Radio Hour. He discussed affordable housing with Delores Bailey from EMPOWERment and Dan Levine from Self-Help. Next week, ctrl+alt+art returns with Niya Lovelace in conversation with Carrboro's Poet Laureate, Dr. Amanda Bennett. Listen live on WCOM-FM 103.5 or stream at wcomfm.org. Or find the recording here later in the week.

And after each radio show, join us at a pop-up newsroom to discuss all things Carrboro and stories you'd like to see, hear, or write. In June and July, you'll find us at Oasis in the Carr Mill Mall on Mondays from 5-6pm.

News from OWASA, Town, and County

OWASA provided an agenda for their July 9 meeting at 6pm at 400 Jones Ferry Road: Review the FY 27 Budget Process and Provide an Update on the Jones Ferry Raod Water Treatment Plant Clearwell and Electrical Project. You can live stream the meeting.

July is Recreation and Parks Month in Carrboro, as proclaimed by Mayor Foushee. "Residents are encouraged to explore Carrboro's parks and natural areas, participate in recreation programs and events, and thank the employees and volunteers who help make these community resources possible." Carrboro This Week

Carrboro is partnering with Precision Infrastructure Management to assess pedestrian infrastructure, focusing on sidewalks, curb ramps, pedestrian crossing, and other accessibility-related features. This assessment is part of the Town's ADA Transition Plan. You may see survey teams in public areas in July and August.
