Hello, all:
We lost a great public servant this week. Jamezetta Bedford, Orange County Commissioner representing District 1, which includes Carrboro, died Sunday. She served on the CHCCS Board for 12 years and then became a County Commissioner seven years ago. She had a degree in math and knew County policies and a lot of its history inside and out. She shared her vast knowledge generously with us through email and her interview on The Carrborean Radio Hour February 17. For the show's intermission, she chose one of her favorite songs, "Wonderful World" performed by Louis Armstrong. Find more information about her life, service, and legacy at these links. Our condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and everyone she served.

Carrboro Pride events are today. The Pride Piper Walk starts at El Centro Hispano on West Weaver St. at 4:30pm. West Weaver St. will be closed to traffic during the Walk only. Festivities continue at Town Commons from 5 - 9pm. Find free parking options here.

Online this week
We previewed the Pride events with WCOM's Out on the Edge interview with the event organizers. We posted a satirical piece that's part of a new, recurring feature called The Turnip from Black Sheep Comedy, which also authored a satirical piece in the print edition. And Elaine Ellis reported on the Juneteenth celebration. And your crossword puzzle solution was posted (sorry for the delay!). Thanks to our new cruciverbalist, J.R., who is creating the puzzles now with even more local clues.

On The Carrborean Radio Hour
This week, ctrl+alt+art repeated one of our best shows, with Niya Lovelace interviewing cartoonist Keith Knight. Next week, John Rees will host his first show, discussing affordable housing with Delores Bailey, Executive Director of EMPOWERment and Dan Levine, Director of Real Estate at Self-Help Credit Union.

News from Town and County
The Carrboro Town Council will not meet again until 9/15. But you can still contact Council Members, as needed. Council Member Danny Nowell says that you can expect "the usual level of responsiveness" when contacting Council Members about issues that concern you. Earlier this month, Council approved the budget for FY 2026-27.
The Orange County Board of County Commissioners will meet again July 9. The Commissioners adopted the county's budget on June 16.
Town and County administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 3.
