Happy Friday in a holiday season! Are you busy? Are you tired? Are you having fun?? It's time to link again to a piece about communication and well-being during the holidays by Will Dudenhausen at Dialogue in Support of Community.
In The Carrborean online this week, you'll find an interview with Al Julian, local author of Shadow Men; an update on rebuilding progress in Weatherhill Pointe (also in the print issue); and a longer piece examining stormwater management at University Lake.
Your crossword solution was posted. No winners this month. Too hard? Or maybe you're too busy.
Last minute gift shopping? There are so many options in Carrboro!
Orange County Solid Waste reminds us about reducing holiday waste in their monthly newsletter, including: shopping local, gifting experiences instead of physical items, getting digital receipts (paper receipts with plastic coating are not recyclable!), create homemade gifts with reused materials, use recyclable wrap such as brown paper bags and decorated newspaper (ahem--the December cover of The Carrborean is fit for this purpose), and save gift wrap and packaging materials to reuse in the future.

"Did you know that not all gift wrap is recyclable? Only wrapping paper and gift bags that are 100% paper are recyclable. Tissue paper, ribbon, and metallic, glittery and plastic-coated wrapping paper and gift bags are not recyclable and should be reused or thrown in the trash." To determine if your wrapping paper is recyclable, scrunch it into a ball. If it stays in a ball, it is recyclable but if it returns to its original shape, it is not recyclable. However, you may want to reuse it.
Last note on waste disposal, if you're unsure how to get rid of something, check out the Orange County NC Recycles app or use the A-Z guide on the website to find disposal options for different items.

On The Carrborean Radio Hour on WCOM 103.5 last week, ctrl+alt+art hosted Toni, also known as The Birdhorse, in a conversation exploring motherhood and art, which will be posted on The Carrborean's YouTube channel next week. On Monday at 4pm, tune in to hear about local storytelling with expert Julia Green. You'll hear from a couple of storytellers who performed at The ArtsCenter last month. It will be a fun and interesting show!
