Other local news
Stormwater management at University Lake update: OWASA hosted a meeting for local and state leaders and experts on flood mitigation on February 16 where it was agreed to add a study of flood management to the Eno Haw Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. That will ensure the study can receive government funding and facilitate cooperation among regional and local partners. At the next OWASA Board of Directors meeting April 9, OWASA staff will ask the Board to consider a letter of support for the Town's request to the OC Board of County Commissioners to add that study to the Eno Haw Plan. Residents are invited to share comments ahead of the meeting (to OWASA Board Clerk Gabrielle Boyce at gboyce@owasa.org) or in person at the meeting (6pm, 400 Jones Ferry Road).

Orange County published its Baseline Community Food Assessment which "contains a glimpse into the many aspects of food in Orange County from production to access to food waste," according to Jonathon Smith, OC Cooperative Extension Director. Something you'll find inside: What does it take to get strawberries from a local farm to your kitchen table? In a county like ours—where urban neighborhoods sit just minutes away from rolling pastures—the answer is more complex than you might think. In the coming months, The Carrborean will be diving more into our local food system to inform and inspire you about food production, consumption, and waste.
