You've seen the signs pop up all over town. The Bazaar art market is at Town Commons one Sunday each month for the rest of the year.

You’ve seen the colorful signs pop up around town in the first weeks of the month, then disappear again after the event. Duncan and Meg Morgan have organized The Bazaar at Carrboro Town Commons for the past 10 years. It takes place six times each year on Sundays in temperate months with 30-40 vendors each time, displaying pottery, jewelry, fine art, crafts, and more. The Morgans ensure an even mix of art types each month and chose Sunday to avoid overlapping with other art markets. There is a deep waiting list for vendors, who manage their own marketing, set-up, location (under tent or roof), and price point to effect sales.

The Morgans see The Bazaar as a way to create community and build friendships among vendors and customers. They want to make it a place where people want to spend time enjoying music and food, and "create a vibe for five hours.” Each month, they design the afternoon to be "something vibrant that serves Carrboro" and they constantly try to improve it to create the best possible experience for vendors and customers. Meg Morgan said, it’s “so fulfilling” to organize it; they’re “throwing a party” and they want people to come and enjoy their time there.

The Carrborean spoke to a few vendors and customers at the recent Bazaar September 14. Jon Mann, a fine artist from Durham, had ink prints arranged carefully around his tent. He has created many attractive visuals of architecture and landscapes but this little gem was also spotted among his work.

Tori and Cat, founders of Knitworthy Yarns, love selling their yarns from around the world along with related notions at The Bazaar and had a great day there on Sunday. Cooler temperatures have ushered in knitting and crochet season!

Carrboro resident Bill Maier hosted a table of books. He creates clever word scrambles with his brother, Martin, under the brand, Celebrity Word Scramble. You may find one such scramble in the print edition of The Carrborean soon.

Customers Greta and Andres are no strangers to The Bazaar. Greta returns to the Bad Cat table for earrings month after month, this time buying dragonfly earrings. As an artist, Andres takes inspiration from the artists out selling their work and admires their bravery. "I wish I could buy everything."

Amy Moss creates upcycled journals, among other things

Upcoming dates for The Bazaar: October 12, November 9, and December 7. See you there!
