Carrboro’s tradition of collaborative creativity, art making, and community building will be on full display on Carrboro Day at The ArtsCenter! This Sunday, April 19, from 2-4 pm, drop by The ArtsCenter to join creatives, makers, friends and all folk in between. There will be free workshops, lessons, and listening opportunities! All are welcome, please come with an open mind and willingness to Make.

This completely free event is brought to you by The National Alliance for Mental Illness and The ArtsCenter, who have partnered to sponsor an afternoon of drop-in art workshops. Four artists will host activities focused on bolstering community while supporting individual and social mental health. Our teaching artists will guide participants in drumming, ceramic handbuilding, neurographic art making, and banner and sign making. Participants who drop in are welcome to come and go as they please, buzzing from one workshop to another.

Join us in this community jubilation with live piano music from James Wallace, explore The ArtsCenter's galleries, and cool down with drinks available in our very own draft beer and wine bar! Or, for those more focused souls, you can come and commit to one art form and hone your skills for an hour.

Art making is for everyone and during this event we will collectively challenge the notion that creation can be intimidating. So we encourage y’all to focus on the process and patterns, or to delve into your own creativity and find joy in your own process. Artists, both new and old, can find success and confidence in art making by allowing ourselves to create rules and following them, leading us to the completion of a rote task. Other creatives find the most fun and fulfillment by coming up with your own ideas for free-flowing projects.

This event will be prepared with materials and aides to make posters, banners, or a little ceramic piece or flowers. All ceramic flowers created on this day will be publicly installed outside, in the gardens surrounding The ArtsCenter. Our goal is to open up the world of creativity, craftsmanship, and community to anyone interested in finding some solace and peace among the people that comprise your town and city.
