It’s that time of the year again for JagTheatre at Carrboro High School! The spring musical for 2026 at Carrboro High is “Once Upon a One More Time.” This musical follows several classic fairytale characters, with the main character being Cinderella. She realizes that what she is doing day after day may not be “happily ever after.” She then tells her friends, including Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, her realization and the rest of the princesses band together to show how they have had enough of doing the same thing day after day.
Another main point of this show is that it is a jukebox musical (songs are not original to the show) and all of the songs were performed by Britney Spears, with the title referring to her hit song, “Hit Me Baby One More Time.”
A lot of hard work has been put into this show. Students have been building sets, putting together props, and sewing costumes for all the performers. A student who has been involved in numerous productions at Carrboro said this about working with JagTheatre, “JagTheatre is just such an amazing and inclusive space where I have truly experienced growth, starting from my freshman year to where I am now in my senior year. Looking back, JagTheater has been a space for so many other people just like myself and has nurtured all types of theater kids, from actors to singers, technicians, leaders, and amazing people.”

Some examples of the set built by students include the main castle, because of the fairytale theme. There is also a tower, due to Rapunzel being another prominent character in the show. Props include scrolls. These scrolls are very important to the story because the main princesses are in a “scroll club”, basically a book club, where they read each other’s stories. Each scroll is personalized to the character, with colors coordinated to them as well. Since these characters are very well known, a lot of thought and effort goes into planning each character’s costume and hair/makeup. One look that has had a lot of planning is the Little Mermaid. In the original tale, she has red hair and right now, those student leaders are planning to use a wig for that performer.
Another CHS Senior responded that their favorite parts of being in this show and a part of JagTheatre, is both being on the acting side and the technical side. That student said, “And I love being able to see both sides of tech and acting in the show. It gives me a better understanding of what needs to happen in order to talk to people and make those connections between the crew and the cast and how to bridge those gaps that sometimes you see in community theatre.”

This is a very sassy, sparkly, and spontaneous show, so expect lots of glitter and attitude! Tickets are currently on sale and show dates are March 12-14 at Carrboro High School. Buy your tickets at jagtheatre.ludus.com. and click Spring Musical!
