Weatherhill Pointe, Tennis Club Estates, and Rosewalk neighbors at a potluck dinner Saturday night, celebrating recovery and resilience
On Saturday, July 26, the Chapel Hill Tennis Club graciously provided a comfortable space where about 50 people gathered to celebrate the hard work behind them and pledge support for the work ahead. An abundance of food, including donations from Monterrey Mexican Grill and Italian Pizzeria III, created a celebratory mood for neighbors who are temporarily displaced from their homes and those who have been providing support to them over the past three weeks.
Attendees spoke about what it means to come together as neighbors to support each other and what the experience has meant to the givers and to the receivers of neighborly assistance. Representatives from the Weatherhill Pointe Home Owners Association thanked neighbors and volunteers who arrived the first day after the storm and provided support at a critical time for mitigating flood impacts to property. And a group of children, displaced from their playground next to the pavilion, sang the sweet song they used to sing while playing on the swings there.
Weatherhill Pointe is asking for volunteers to help clean up their neighborhood this Saturday, August 2, from 8am - 12pm. Drop in when you can and help for as long as you are able. They will provide gloves, trash bags, and drinking water at the pavilion. They ask volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes and to bring:
Shovels of every variety, but especially those helpful in clearing debris
