It’s National Farmers Market week from August 3-9! This week, Farmers' Markets are celebrated across the country for offering fresh produce and bringing the community together.

The Carrboro Farmers’ Market, which is open year-round on Saturdays and open on Wednesdays from April to November, is a great place to support local vendors and find fresh produce.

As Carrboro transitions from summer to fall, new items will become available at the market. Many of the vendors have been planting new crops to prepare for the fall season.

According to vendors, items including figs, tomatoes, pears, and other fruits will start to sell within the next month.

Vendor Jenna Monk from Monk's Produce & Provisions (farming out of Breeze Farm, an incubator farm) comes out every Wednesday to sell potatoes and flowers, despite dealing with flooded fields and high temperatures from extreme weather patterns.

The weather this year has been a challenge for vendors at the market, but they have continued to show up and sell every week in Carrboro.

Vendor Whitney Allen from the Rocky Run Farm was selling tomatoes and flowers this past week. She went through a similar experience to Monk. “Weather is always an issue. It's either too hot, too cold, or too rainy,” said Allen. “We're trying to adapt as we go.”

Shoppers such as Kathleen Carley attend the market often for fresh produce. Carley enjoys that the produce is minimally packaged and “not in clamshells.”

Other shoppers, such as Grace Hartsell, prefer the market because the flowers are fresher and more presentable, in comparison to supermarkets.

Carrboro is grateful for the essential role farmers' markets play in the community, as well as the food system. We hope to see you at the market!
