Saturday, July 12; Update 8:30PM: Today's focus was Moving Heavy Things and tearing out drywall. There were a lot of volunteers (more would be welcome tomorrow). Please park on Westbrook Avenue and walk into the Weatherhill Pointe neighborhood. There are no new needs this evening so I'll post in the morning as things get going.

Needs at 1pm today: Ice, Poweraid/Gatorade, electrolyte packs, packaged snacks, contractor bags, plastic bins, wheelbarrows, hand trucks/dollies. Bring them to the Pavilion. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Volunteers are also needed at the Canterbury Apartments, the corner of Friar and Chaucer (125 Friar), for mucking, gutting, sweeping, and sanitizing.
Friday, July 11: The arduous, heartbreaking work of clearing out houses continues today. Families and volunteers are racing against time as mold sets in. The good news: Volunteers are onsite and ready to help, and we anticipate more coming tomorrow. Supplies can be picked up in the pavilion, staffed by Dominique and other volunteers. Scroll down to the end of the post for a list of municipal and other resources.
Residents: it's very important for you to go to the Recovery Assistance Center at the Drakeford Building (203 south Greensboro Street in Carrboro) to report how you've been affected and your losses to the Orange County team there. Your reports ensure the county gets state and federal government money to provide relief.
I'll be updating this post around 1pm and 5pm. Right now (6:45PM): They still need volunteers to help clean out. Bring work gloves and a heavy-duty mask with a respirator; suggest wearing long pants and old sneakers or boots. There are limited PPE supplies. And it's muddy! Report to the pavilion when you arrive.
They also need volunteers to staff the pavilion which is serving as the central supply station from 8AM to 6PM, in all weather except thunderstorms. Contact info@thecarrborean.com if you can staff the pavilion for any amount of time.
Please drop off donations in the pavilion between 8AM and 6PM. What they need now: Bottled water and Gatorade, heavy duty trash bags (not kitchen bags), safety goggles, insulation knives, headlamps, bug spray, vinegar, work gloves, heavy-duty shoe covers, plastic (nitrile) gloves, liquid IV/electrolyte powders, heavy-duty masks with respirators, wheelbarrows, a wagon, boxes, and plastic bins for salvaged items.
They also need recommendations for vetted flood remediation contractors, especially any willing to give discounts at this time! Email recommendations to info@thecarrborean.com
Monetary donations can help defray the cost of supplies. Checks made out to Weatherhill Pointe HOA will be accepted at the pavilion or by mailing to P.O. Box 442, Carrboro, NC 27510.
THANK YOU! The response of the community and a few local businesses has been tremendous! The work continues this weekend!
