Carrboro Celebrates the 4th of July!
The People's Parade on Weaver Street

More than 150 people were decked out in red, white, and blue for its annual Fourth of July celebration.

The People’s Parade, which began outside Weaver Street Market, was led by the Durham band, the Bulltown Strutters. “We can lead and bring people to another level of joy and happiness,” said band member Mystic Waters. “We need it!”

The parade included a variety of ages, with children riding their bikes and band members dancing. Families and friends joined in as the audience cheered their support.

The parade arrived at the Town Commons, where the party continued with live music, food, bouncy houses, crafts, and more. Everyone joined in the fun, socializing and watching the magic show.

Attendee Elizabeth O’Melia brought her golden retriever puppy, a service dog in training. “I think it's really important to bring the whole community together,” said O’Melia, who grew up around Carrboro. “I’ve been doing these events since I was little. Coming out and having fun together is important.”

“We want to be a part of the celebration and a part of the community,” said Waters. “We have to have something that anchors us as humans.”

Giant bubble fun

Carrboro Town holds a variety of events throughout the year that give all residents and visitors the chance to celebrate and get to know each other within the community. Businesses and community groups in Carrboro offer events each month–more than 200 in July!

“We need to laugh. We need to dance. We need to sing,” said Waters.

“It brings all people together,” said Chris Meglin, a member of The Bulltown Strutters. “We can’t stop voicing our opinions, being who we are, and celebrating diversity. We’re connected to each other.”
