Weekly update, February 6
Print Issue Distributed | Local Housing Analysis and Sketchbook Circles | Interview with Keith Knight on The Carrborean Radio Hour | Primary Elections Coming Soon | Black History Month Events | Where to Watch the Games this Weekend
Happy Friday!
The print issue has been distributed--did you find it? Let us know if you can't. It's full of fun stuff and news from your neighbors. What is your neighborhood up to? We're looking for those stories for the March issue. Editor's note: one of the best parts of doing this work is being stopped by people as I deliver newspapers. "Is that the new issue? Can I have one?" Your joy is mine. Thank you!
Online this week
Steven Lambeth wrote about the local housing market, and My Muses Card Shop and Gallery hosts free Sketchbook Circles on first Fridays each month.
The Carrboro Town Council convened this week and we'll post the highlights over the weekend. We're also expanding coverage to Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board Meetings and those highlights will be posted soon. There was a particularly long meeting last night and it deserves a summary. If anyone would like to help cover those meetings or Orange County Commissioners meetings, please let us know: info@thecarrborean.com
The Carrborean Radio Hour on WCOM 103.5 (wcomfm.org)
On ctrl+alt+art, Niya Lovelace interviewed Keith Knight, the Carrboro-based cartoonist who contributes comics to The Carrborean. Several people have said that it was the best interview we've aired to date.
On Monday from 4 - 5pm, we'll continue our coverage of Orange County primary elections with a conversation with Maria Palmer, candidate for Orange County Board of Commissioners for District 1 (which includes Carrboro). John Rees of The Triangle Blog Blog will join us again in the studio.
And The Carrborean's pop-up newsroom is at The Flying Pierogi (in the South Green shopping center) this month, from 5 - 6pm on Mondays. Come by to say "hi" and tell us what stories you'd like to hear or tell.
Reminder: the primary elections are coming up March 3. Are you registered to vote? Today is the deadline to register but if you miss it you can still register and vote during the early voting period with proof of residency.

News from Town and County
Shout out to the Carrboro Public Works team, some of whom have been working for the past 26 days clearing snow, ice, and debris and keeping us safe. They will finally enjoy time off this weekend.

The Community Bulletin Board has announcements and opportunities for giving and civic engagement and is updated weekly.
There's so much going on in Carrboro! Check out The Events Calendar to see what's happening and help us keep it up to date.
There are at least two significant sport events this weekend. What we know about where you can watch them in town--
Basketball: UNC hosts Duke, Saturday at 6:30pm. Watch at Speakeasy, Bru's Public House, The Flying Pierogi, and Steel String Brewery.
The Superbowl, Sunday at 6:30pm. Watch at Bru's Public House and Steel String Brewery.
As always, please consider a paid subscription to support community journalism (local news told by the people living it) and ask your favorite businesses if they advertise in The Carrborean. Subscribers at the "Angel" tier get the first-ever Carrborean T-shirt among other benefits. Thank you! Big thanks to The Merch for printing the shirts!
